A Centre for Reproductive Health Education and Specialist Training (CREST), one of the largest of its kind in Asia, was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on April 4.

The centre, run by the Research Centre for Genetics and Reproductive Health (CGRH) under the School for Medicine of the Ho Chi Minh City National University , is installed with latest equipment costing over 8 billion VND.

It will offer training and technology transfer in the field for trainees from Vietnam and other regional countries such as Singapore , Indonesia and the Philippines .

It will also serve the CGRH in researching and applying new technologies in genetics and reproductive health care.

Dr. Dang Van Phuoc, Head of the School for Medicine of the Ho Chi Minh City National University said Vietnam now has over one million couples, accounting for 7.7 percent of the total, facing reproductive problems and need treatment.

The establishment of the centre will help supply human resources to meet the increasing demand, he added.

The Ho Chi Minh City National University plans to invest more in the centre to make it one of the country’s top institutions in the field.-VNA
