HCM City (VNA) - A conference was held in Ho Chi Minh City on September13 to discuss the growing market opportunities for the city’s supportingindustries.
Pham LienAnh, a senior expert of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), said theIFC has been sponsoring a Vietnam Supplier Development Programme, which ishelping businesses improve their capability, move up the value chain and workwith more foreign and multinational companies.
Theprogramme was launched to keep existing FDI and attract new investors who havemodern technology, and provides a comprehensive evaluation of participatingbusinesses' operation and consultancy, she said.
Ngo BaoAnh, a representative of Panasonic Vietnam, said the company exports componentsfrom Vietnamese suppliers to its factories abroad, adding that it focuses oncompetitive suppliers who meet corporate responsibility requirements.
Jun Choi,country director of Coex, a Korean exhibition organiser, said there arenumerous business groups and centres that provide information which couldenable Vietnamese companies to network with businesses in Korea and elsewhere.
Nguyen PhuongDong, Deputy Director of the city’s Department of Industry and Trade, said amidthe benefits and challenges brought by free trade agreements, the city has alsobeen organising training sessions and networking opportunities for industries,including supporting industries sector.
It isalso seeking permission from the Government to build a new 300ha industrialpark.
It needsto develop the industrial sector to attract investment and its businesses needto be part of the supply chains of global companies./.
