Washington (VNA) – Members of the patriotic businessmen and Vietnamese people club in the Washington metropolitan area (DMV) have highly valued the significance of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW on overseas Vietnamese (OV) affairs, describing it as a humane and fresh approach encouraging all Vietnamese, wherever they are, to stay connected to their homeland and contribute to national development.

Giving their sincere, objective, and constructive opinions on the draft documents for the 14th National Party Congress, the Vietnamese expats emphasised that after more than 21 years of implementation, a comprehensive review of the Resolution is needed to fully evaluate its achievements and shortcomings, while updating its content to better reflect the current context of deep international integration.

The club’s members suggested the Party and State update the Resolution or issue a new one on OV affairs to provide strategic guidance for mobilising and uniting the overseas community, while strengthening the link between people-to-people diplomacy and national solidarity.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) should also adopt a more flexible mechanism to engage, invite, and listen to the views of overseas intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and experts worldwide, they said, noting that if effectively mobilised and organised, the OVs' intellectual and material resources could significantly contribute to the country’s development.

The OVs particularly highlighted the role of young Vietnamese expats, stressing the need for programmes tailored to them to help deepen their understanding of Vietnam’s history, culture, and language; and foster national pride, thereby cultivating a patriotic, knowledgeable, and confident youth capable of promoting a positive image of Vietnam to international friends.

They also urged strengthening the ties between the VFF, diplomatic agencies, and overseas Vietnamese organisations, so that Vietnamese abroad always feel close to their homeland. They expressed confidence that effectively mobilising and harnessing the strength of patriotic OVs can serve as a strategic resource for building a strong, prosperous and compassionate Vietnam with sustainable development./.
