TheGeneral Secretary thanked the Singaporean President for selectingVietnam as the first country to visit after beginning his term ofoffice, describing the visit as a vivid symbol of friendship, trust andcooperation between the two countries.
He congratulatedSingapore on its socio-economic development achievements and affirmedVietnam ’s policy to attach importance to developing friendship andcooperation with Singapore .

The Vietnamese leader expressedhis determination to join with Singapore to boost comprehensivecooperation, focusing on economic trade, national defence and security,education and training, oil and gas, and justice, as well as tocoordinate at multilateral forums, including ASEAN and the UN, formutual benefits and for peace, stability and development in the regionand the world.

For his part, President Tony TanKeng Yam stated Singapore ’s policy of enhancing cooperation withVietnam and being ready to share experience with Vietnam ininvestment, trade, urban infrastructure, seaports and human resourcetraining.

He said that Vietnam ’s achievements under theleadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam in recent years elevateVietnam to an important role in the region and in the world.

Heexpressed his belief that Vietnam would continue to gain greatersocio-economic development achievements, to become an industrialisedcountry by 2020./.
