The Philippines’ election season began on October 12 with politicians registering for thousands of posts, reported the country’s media.

Vice President Jejomar Binay was the first candidate to register for the candidacy for president.

Binay, head of the opposite United Nationalist Alliance, registered with the Commission on Election in Manila and his running mate Senator Gringo Honasan filed certificate for candidacy for vice president.

Two other politicians are expected to take part in the presidential race are Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, supported by the President Benigno S. Aquino’s administration, and Senator Grace Poe.

As planned, the registration process will run until October 16 for more than 18,000 positions from the presidency to village captain levels in the May elections next year.

After finishing the registration process, candidates will start their seven-month election campaign.

The six-year presidential term of Benigno S. Aquino will end in June next year.-VNA
