Hanoi (VNA) – Philippine Undersecretary of National Defence Cardozo M. Luna declared on April 24 that a new navy cooperation pact between the Philippines and Russia, which is currently under development by a working group, may be signed in July.

The two countries have already drafted the navy-to-navy agreement, which will be anchored on the bilateral defence cooperation agreement signed in 2017, Cardozo M.Luna told Sputnik in an interview.

The new deal will focus on exchange activities, and aim to develop the Philippines’ capacity, he added.

Also in the interview, the defence undersecretary stated that his country is interested in developing defence collaboration with Iran – one of its non-traditional friends.

He emphasised the relationship with Iran was just starting, adding that the Philippines sent a delegation to Iran earlier this year to look into its defence
capability and defence industry.

The undersecretary is attending the ongoing three-day Moscow Conference on International Security.-VNA
