Phu Quoc – an island that has everything: Business Traveller

Beyond its striking natural landscapes—an attribute that has consistently earned the island top rankings among Asia’s and the world’s most beautiful beaches and destinations, Business Traveller noted that Phu Quoc’s true strength lies in its ability to offer a complete range of experiences within a single destination.

Hanoi (VNA) – Business Traveller, the UK’s leading travel magazine for business and affluent travellers, has recently named Phu Quoc among the world’s most trending and “hottest” destinations, predicting a dramatic transformation for the Vietnamese island in the years ahead.

In its latest Travel Trends: The Hot List feature, Business Traveller showered praise on Phu Quoc, the only destination from Vietnam to make the list. The ranking includes just ten destinations worldwide, carefully selected by the magazine’s expert panel.

Author Yi-Hwa Hanna described Phu Quoc in powerful terms, calling it “a rapidly rising part of the ‘land of the ascending dragon’, now swiftly taking shape as East Asia’s next major island destination.”

According to Business Traveller, Phu Quoc’s growing appeal is driven first and foremost by the strong influx of leading global hotel and resort brands. “A significant number of international brands have already opened or are under development here, including La Festa Phu Quoc – Curio Collection by Hilton, New World Phu Quoc Resort, and Rixos Phu Quoc,” the magazine noted.

The collective presence of these prestigious names not only elevates the island’s tourism landscape but also serves as a strong vote of confidence in the long-term potential of Phu Quoc’s high-end tourism and hospitality sector.

Business Traveller also highlighted Phu Quoc’s increasing popularity among travellers from major markets such as the Republic of Korea, China, and Russia.

Looking ahead, the magazine sees vast room for further growth: “International visitor numbers continue to rise steadily year after year.” A key driver of this momentum is the expanding network of direct flights from East Asia, with Phu Quoc International Airport serving as a key gateway that significantly shortens travel times and enhances connectivity with global travellers, rather than relying on a limited number of traditional source markets.

From the author’s perspective, Phu Quoc is standing at a historic turning point: “From a once-sleepy fishing village, Phu Quoc is now preparing not just for a tourism boom, but for a comprehensive transformation.”

Few places can rival its unique combination of “pristine beaches, abundant marine life, cultural attractions, jungles, mountains, and vibrant local markets.”

Notably, Phu Quoc has gone beyond leveraging its natural assets by continually reinventing itself with iconic entertainment experiences. These include the world’s longest three-wire cable car to Hon Thom Island, as well as large-scale multimedia and fireworks shows such as Symphony of the Sea and Kiss of the Sea, making Phu Quoc one of the rare islands in the world to stage fireworks displays twice every night.

The harmonious blend of untouched natural beauty, an increasingly comprehensive resort and entertainment ecosystem, and strong international connectivity is laying a solid foundation for Phu Quoc’s breakthrough. As Business Traveller observed, the island is not merely “undergoing a makeover,” but steadily asserting its position as a large-scale island destination in the region. With its current momentum, Phu Quoc is expected to make an even stronger mark on the global tourism map in the years to come./.

Phu Quoc: Where the world meets through architecture

The presence of diverse international architectural styles across Phu Quoc, rather than a single traditional architectural system, is not accidental but rooted in the island’s unique development context. Unlike cities with centuries of urban heritage such as Hoi An or Hue, Phu Quoc is a tourism destination that has grown rapidly over just the past few decades, without a clearly layered architectural legacy to inherit.
