Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged central coastal provinces and cities to closely track Typhoon Nongfa, forecast to make landfall on August 30 evening, in order to proactively carry out response measures.
In a dispatch to authorities in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Tri province, and Hue city, and heads of relevant ministries and agencies, the PM noted that the storm, the sixth to hit Vietnam so far this year, is moving rapidly at a speed of around 20–25 km per hour toward the waters and mainland of central Vietnam.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Typhoon Nongfa is expected to make landfall this evening in Ha Tinh and northern Quang Tri — areas already affected by the previous storm.
Localities from Thanh Hoa to Hue are forecast to experience heavy rain, with a very high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying, riverside, and urban areas.
In the dispatch, local authorities were asked to track ships and vessels at sea, keep them informed of the storm’s progress, guide them away from high-risk areas, and direct them to safe shelters.
The PM also ordered authorities to deploy personnel and resources to support the evacuation and relocation of residents from unsafe areas. Localities were instructed to proactively operate hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs to ensure safety and prevent any unexpected incidents.
The leader assigned specific tasks to the ministries of agriculture and environment, industry and trade, national defence, and public security, and other relevant agencies.
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) was asked to implement measures to ensure the safety of hydroelectric reservoirs, power transmission systems, and other electricity infrastructure, while preparing rapid-response plans to address potential damage and maintain power supply for production and household use./.
