Remains of US servicemen repatriated

A repatriation ceremony of remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was held at the Da Nang International Airport in the central city of Da Nang.

A repatriation ceremony of remains of US servicemen who died during thewar in Vietnam was held at the Da Nang International Airport inthe central city of Da Nang.

Attending theevent were representatives from the Board of Directors of Vietnam Officefor Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and the Consulate General of theUS in HCM City , the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) andthe US MIA Office in Hanoi.

The Vietnameserepresentatives handed over to the US side three boxes of remainswhich were turned in by Vietnamese people and recovered by joint teamsduring the 112 th Joint Field Activities from July to September, 2013.

The remains had been jointly reviewed and concludedby Vietnamese and US forensic specialists that they might be associatedwith the US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam and wererecommended to be brought to Hawaii, the US, for further review.

Addressing at the ceremony, a US Government representative expresseddeep gratitude and high appreciation for the steadfast humanitarianpolicy, good-will and increasingly efficient cooperation of theVietnamese Government and people.

The seeking of the remains ofUS servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam is a humanitariancooperation between the Vietnamese and US Governments. This is the 128th hand-over of American missing servicemen’s remains since 1973.-VNA
