Thai Nguyen (VNA) – An online booth introducing products of the northern province of Thai Nguyen on Shopee platform was launched at an event on January 7, marking Thai Nguyen as the first locality in the country to offer its products for sale on an e-commerce platform.

On this occasion, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Thai Nguyen and Shopee Vietnam Co., Ltd. was inked.

The booth, which can be accessed at https://shopee.vn/m/thainguyen, is expected to serve as a “one-stop-shop” addressing online buying and selling demands for Thai Nguyen products, contributing to spreading and improving the reputation and brand value of local products.

To promote the booth, 3,000 discount vouchers worth a total of 300 million VND (over 11,800 USD), are being offered to encourage consumers’ shopping.

To set up a provincial-level e-commerce booth, the locality has deployed a comprehensive campaign that supports all local household businesses and enterprises, making it easier for its potential products to have the opportunity to be showcased in the digital space, thus gaining access to both the national and international markets.

This campaign will be repeatedly implemented until online sale becomes a standard practice in local enterprises’ business activities.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Huy Dung said Thai Nguyen wants to make breakthrough in e-commerce, adding that this is a challenging goal, but also very feasible, as it has gathered a dynamic and united community of sellers, a diverse ecosystem of OCOP (One Commune One Product) products, based on promoting unique geographical, historical, and cultural elements.

Thai Nguyen aims for 100% of local businesses and household enterprises with potential products to establish and effectively maintain sale channels on e-commerce platforms. The province plans to export its products to international markets through e-commerce platforms in 2025, initially focusing on the ASEAN market, and participate in the ASEAN Online Sale Day (AOSD) held annually on August 8.

Jason Bay, Country Director in Vietnam of Singapore’s Sea Limited Group, stressed that Shopee is proud to support Thai Nguyen’s aspirations in expanding exports to ASEAN and promoting trade and investment opportunities.

As part of the event, training activities, workshops, and skill transfer for operating and developing Thai Nguyen’s product booths on Shopee attracted around 250 representatives from businesses, cooperatives, universities, and community digital technology teams in Thai Nguyen./.
