Hanoi (VNA) – The sales of new vehicles in Thailand in 2018 are expected to hit one million units for the first time in five years, according to data from Toyota Motor Thailand

Insiders attributed the high sales to consumer sentiment’s improvement as political uncertainties in Thailand have eased following the government’s promise to hold a general election next year.

Besides, the Thailand International Motor Expo later this year is also expected to support new car sales.

During the period between January and September, the sales of new passenger and commercial vehicles rose 20.3 percent from the same period last year to 746,584 units, including 291,091 passenger cars (up 19 percent), and 445,493 commercial vehicles (up 21.1 percent).

September witnessed a double-digit increase for the 13th straight month in new vehicle sales in Thailand – the second-largest automobile market in Southeast Asia.

Last year, the total sales of new vehicles grew by 13.4 percent to 871,650 units for the first annual growth in five years in comparison to their peak in 2012 at 1,436,335 units. - VNA
