The 11th National Horticultural Congress of Thailand is taking place in Chiang Mai with an aim of implementing academic research for the benefit of farmers and the economy.
The 11th National Horticultural Congress of Thailand is taking placein Chiang Mai with an aim of implementing academic research for thebenefit of farmers and the economy.

The conference on Feb. 1-3 isaimed to publicicze related findings by researchers, academics andstudents and to provide a stage for the participants to exchange theiropinions in order to develop the country’s potential in horticulture,the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT) said.
A totalof 153 research projects are being showcased at the event. They arecategorised into five groups, consisting of fruits, flowers andornamental plants, vegetables and mushrooms, herbs and spices, and otherhorticultural crops.

Suwit Chaikiattiyos, Director of theHorticulture Research Institute under the Department of Agriculture,said in preparation for the establishment of the ASEAN Community in2015, Thai farmers must strive to reduce the cost of production, cutdown on the use of toxic chemicals, and enhance the quality of theircrops.

There will be a campaign to introduce cost-cuttingtechnologies to the farmers as a way to help boost their potential to beon par with their competitors in other countries, the director added./.
