Hung Yen (VNA) – As part of their official visit to Vietnam, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and President of the Council of the State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández and a high-ranking Cuban delegation paid a working visit to the northern province of Hung Yen on October 4.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Khac Than welcomed the delegation on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Vietnam–Cuba diplomatic ties. He underlined that the bilateral relationship is among the world’s rare examples of enduring solidarity and loyal friendship, nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and leader Fidel Castro, and symbolising exemplary international relations. The Vietnamese people will forever remember Cuba’s sincere support during the years of struggle for national independence as well as in today’s nation-building and defence.

Briefing the guests on Hung Yen’s socio-economic development, Than said the province was restructured on July 1, 2025 through the merger of the former Hung Yen and Thai Binh provinces. Over recent years, Hung Yen has maintained macro-economic stability and shifted its economic structure towards industry–services–agriculture. With large-scale agricultural production in the Red River Delta, the province is focusing on industrial and service development, alongside administrative reform to improve its investment climate. Hung Yen has developed multiple industrial parks and clusters, attracting thousands of enterprises.

To date, it has hosted 904 foreign-invested projects from countries and territories such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Taiwan (China), Hong Kong (China) and the United States, with a total registered capital of 16.2 billion USD.

The host expressed his hope that the Cuban NA Chairman’s visit would enhance mutual understanding, further strengthen the solidarity between the two sides, and open up practical cooperation opportunities between Hung Yen and Cuban localities in health care, education and training, high-tech agriculture, processing industries, and culture–tourism.

For his part, Esteban Lazo expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and praised Hung Yen’s socio-economic achievements, noting it as one of Vietnam’s fast-growing localities. He congratulated the provincial Party Organisation on successfully holding its first congress for the 2025–2030 tenure, with important orientations and development goals looking ahead to 2045. He expressed confidence that with unity, dynamism, creativity and existing potential, Hung Yen would achieve sustainable and comprehensive growth, fulfilling its set targets.

He stressed Cuba’s desire to deepen the special friendship and to expand bilateral cooperation following the recent visit to Cuba by Party General Secretary To Lam, during which both sides agreed on a number of concrete programmes and joint actions across various fields.

Sharing Cuba’s current difficulties, the Cuban NA leader expressed deep gratitude for the great support of Vietnam and Hung Yen in particular in a recent campaign to raise donations to aid the Cuban people, calling it a noble gesture and a vivid demonstration of the brotherly ties between the two nations.

He also extended his heartfelt sympathy to the Vietnamese people over the serious human and material losses caused by Typhoon Bualoi, voicing his belief that with resilience and solidarity, Vietnam will soon overcome the challenges caused by the disaster.

At the meeting, the Cuban delegation and Hung Yen authorities exchanged experience in socio-economic development, investment attraction, governance and public administration, as well as high-tech agriculture./.
