Top Cuban legislator welcomed in Ben Tre province

Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez led a delegation to the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre on June 17 within the framework of his official visit to Vietnam.

Ben Tre (VNA) - Chairman of theCuban National Assembly Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez led a delegation to theMekong Delta province of Ben Tre on June 17 within the framework of his officialvisit to Vietnam.

He was welcomed by Chairman of theprovincial People’s Committee Cao Van Trong, who briefed him on the locality’ssocio-economic development situation.

The Cuban NA leader spoke highly of BenTre’s socio-economic development achievements and operation experience of thelocal People’s Council, Deputy Delegation and political and socialorganisations.

Speaking at the working session, VietnameseNA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong stressed the significance of the visit toVietnam and to Ben Tre in particular by Cuba’s top legislator, saying it showsthe time-honoured friendship and high political trust between the twocountries.

Earlier, the guest attended a ceremony toinaugurate and rename the Luong Hoa kindergarten in Luong Hoa commune, Giong Tromdistrict the Moncada kindergarten.

On January 9, 1984, the provincial PeopleCommittee decided to choose Luong Hoa commune to twin with Cuba and call it “Moncadavillage”. Moncada is where the Cuban revolution against the dictatorship of Batistabegan.

Meanwhile, the Hinba Bonita cow farm inMoncada was named “Ben Tre village”.

The naming, initiated by President Fidel Castro and general Nguyen Thi Dinh,reflects the solidarity between the two nations.-VNA
