President Barack Obama appointed Shear with a 30-year experience in the foreign service as the US ambassador to Vietnam last December.
Earlier, Shear served as the deputy assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
Also the same day, the Senate also ratified Derek Mitchell as the first US special envoy to Myanmar.
Earlier, Mitchell served as the principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs./.
