Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia boost economic cooperation for sustainable development

A joint delegation of the National Assemblies (NAs) of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia had a working session with officials of Vietnamese localities in the CLV Development Triangle area in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on October 18.

Gia Lai (VNA) - A joint delegation of theNational Assemblies (NAs) of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia had a working session with officials of Vietnamese localities in the CLV Development Triangle area in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai onOctober 18.

The meeting is a part of the first joint field survey by the three NAs in localities in the Development Triangle, and is an important activity in preparation for the first Vietnam – Laos– Cambodia Parliamentary Summit in December this year.

Established in 1999,the CLV Development Triangle has promoted its role as an effectivemechanism, connecting the three neighbouring countries, ensuring peace,security, and politics, and promoting poverty reduction and socio-economicdevelopment in the region.

In his openingremarks, Chairman of Vietnamese NA's External Affairs Committee Vu Hai Haexpressed the hope that at the meeting, leaders of ministries and sectors will submit reports on cooperation in the triangle in terms of foreignaffairs, economics, culture – society, defence – security, which serve as the basis for participants to discuss and make proposals on enhancing the three NAs' role in promoting cooperation and connectivities among the three economies towards sustainable development.

Cambodian and Laoofficials highly valued the field survey, saying that it will contribute tofurther tightening the friendship and solidarity between the three countries, thusdeveloping policies and institutions to jointly promote economic developmentand integration, and maintain security and defence in the region.

At the meeting, representatives from theCentral Highlands of Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Nong, and Dak Lak, and the southernprovince of Binh Phuoc made recommendations to strengthen the role of the threecountries' parliaments in promoting cooperation, partnership, solidarity andprosperity, and expanding connection among the three economies towards sustainabledevelopment.

Previously, on October17 afternoon, the joint delegation made field trips to the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia border T-junction and the Bo Y International Border Gate in KonTum.

In the first ninemonths of 2023, two-way trade between Vietnam and Laos reached 1.19 billion USD,while Vietnam – Cambodia trade hit 6.5 billion USD, down 1.96% and 23% year-on-year,respectively.

The five Vietnamese localities in the CLV Development Triangle recorded an economic growth rate of 8.62% in2022. Meanwhile, the localities’ GRDP per capita reached 60.6 million VND./.

NA Vice Chairman inspects election preparations in Ca Mau

National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai, who is also a member of the National Election Council, called on Ca Mau authorities to ensure local communes and wards regularly update and clearly post voter lists as required, ensure timely allocation of funds for the grassroots level, maintain public safety and order, and provide social welfare support for those eligible, especially as the Lunar New Year holiday draws near.

NA Vice Chairman inspects election preparations in Quang Tri

National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong, member of the National Election Council, asked Quang Tri to continue implementing all steps in line with legal regulations, including establishing election teams within the timeframe prescribed in the election law, and organising the 2nd and 3rd consultative conferences to finalise the lists of candidates no later than February 20, 2026.

NA Standing Committee inspects election preparations in Ca Mau

In Ca Mau, 13 candidates have been introduced for the National Assembly, 73 for the provincial People’s Council, and 1,469 for commune-level People’s Councils. The provincial election committee has designated five NA constituencies and 18 constituencies for People’s Councils at provincial and commune levels.
