Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavath and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc have pledged to assist Vietnamese investors in Laos in order to boost investment cooperation between the two countries.

The two Deputy PMs and senior officials of the two governments listened to opinions from the investors at a meeting on February 25 in Lao’s southern Attapeu town.

President of the Association of Vietnamese Investors in Laos (AVIL) Tran Bac Ha noted that Vietnam is currently operating 22 projects in Laos with a total investment of 3.8 billion USD.

Vietnamese businesses have also been active in social activities in the host country, said Ha, adding that they contributed 35 million USD to the poverty production programme in a number of poor localities in Laos.

The Vietnamese and Lao leaders praised the roles that AVIL and the Vietnamese investors play. They expressed their delight that the investment cooperation between the two countries has strongly developed despite the gloomy global economic situation.-VNA
