Accordingto the Asia/Pacific Quarterly PC Tracker, promotions of Windows 8.1with Bing notebooks and the slow but steady growth of convertibles ledto an increase in volumes, especially in the second half of 2014.
"Whileit helped prevent a drop in PC shipments in Vietnam, aggressive movesfrom vendors generally took down the price further and it impacted onthe margins too," Phan Thi Hoang Yen, market analyst for PCs at IDCVietnam, said.
"Looking at 2015, we're still expecting resilientPC spending added with a small but growing gaming market to keep themarket stable."
Vietnam's economic forecast is another reason to expect a positive trend in the PC market next year.
"Wecan expect to see a mild increase in enterprise spending due to thehealthy position of Vietnam's economy," Daniel Pang, senior researchmanager for client devices at IDC ASEAN, said.
"There will be anumber of opportunities in the retail sector with a fast growing numberof new outlets and malls, as well as in the banking sector due to theincrease in mergers and acquisitions."
Vendor market sharesremained quite consistent throughout the year, as Dell maintained itsoverall lead despite a strong challenge from ASUS, while Lenovo and Acerstruggled to keep pace.-VNA
