Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Vietnam RubberGroup (VRG) held a ceremony to inaugurate its rubber latex processing plant inCambodia on January 25.
The Chu Se Kampong Thom plant, located in KampongThom province, is one of the biggest rubber latex processing plants inSoutheast Asia.
The event was attended by Cambodian Deputy PrimeMinister Yim Chhay Ly, local authorities, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia VuQuang Minh, VRG executives, among others.
Addressing the ceremony, VRG CEO Tran Ngoc Thuan said,the inauguration of the plant forms part of activities to implement the jointagreement between the Governments of Vietnam and Cambodia on developing 100,000hectares of rubber trees in Cambodia, creating huge economic benefits and jobsfor local people.
On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia,Deputy Prime Minister Yim Chhay Ly lauded the socio-economic values of VRG’sprojects in Cambodia.
Over the past ten years, the group has plantednearly 90,000 hectares of rubber trees in eight provinces of Cambodia, worthnearly 700 million USD.
The Chu Se Kampong Thom plant is VRG’s thirdplant in the country, with the annual designed capacity of 21,500 tonnes. Thefigure is expected to be raised to 45,000 tonnes by 2022.-VNA
