Vietnamese leaders extend condolences over Indian casualties in An Giang tourist boat accident

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese leaders have sent messages of condolences to Indian leaders upon learning that a tourist boat capsized in bad weather in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of An Giang on July 11, resulting in heavy casualties among Indian tourists.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung extended condolences to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In their messages, the Vietnamese leaders extended their heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences to the State and people of India, especially the families of the victims.

They affirmed that Vietnamese authorities have been swiftly deploying search-and-rescue operations, providing medical treatment to the injured, assisting the victims' families, and working closely with their Indian counterparts to address the aftermath of the incident.

The same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung also cabled a similar message to his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar./.

According to the document, at around 13:00 on July 11, an especially serious waterway traffic accident occurred about 200 metres off Hon May Rut Ngoai Island. Passenger canoe AG-26751, carrying 32 Indian tourists and three crew members, capsized while travelling from Hon May Rut Ngoai Island to An Thoi Port, claiming 15 lives as of 15:00 the same day.

Man jailed for smashing Nguyen Dynasty throne armrest

According to the indictment, Tam bought an admission ticket to the citadel around noon on May 24, 2025. Once inside Thai Hoa Palace, he climbed over a protective barrier, sat on the "Nguyen Dynasty Throne", and broke off the front-left armrest before striking the artifact further and shattering the broken section into multiple pieces.

Nearly 700 administrative procedures abolished

Over 100 overseas Vietnamese youth to join Vietnam Summer Camp 2026

The programme will introduce delegates to Vietnam's rich cultural heritage, including UNESCO-recognised sites such as the Complex of Hue Monuments, My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An Ancient Town and Hue Royal Court Music.
