Ten localities to launch housing projects for Agent Orange victims’ children

The Deputy PM assigned the Chairpersons of the People’s Committees of the 10 provinces and cities that have yet to begin construction to urgently complete all necessary preparations and hold simultaneous ground-breaking ceremonies on July 15, for projects to build and repair homes for eligible beneficiaries.

Hanoi (VNA) – Ten provinces and centrally-run cities will simultaneously launch a programme on July 15, to replace temporary and dilapidated homes for biological children of those who joined the resistance wars and were affected by Agent Orange/dioxin.

According to an official dispatch issued by the Government Office, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra commended the Ministry of National Defence and 24 localities for proactively implementing housing support for eligible beneficiaries. The programme has so far provided assistance to repair or build 1,422 homes for biological children of revolutionaries exposed to toxic chemicals who receive monthly preferential allowances and are living in temporary or unsafe housing, including 410 homes already completed, handed over and put into use.

The Deputy PM assigned the Chairpersons of the People’s Committees of the 10 provinces and cities that have yet to begin construction to urgently complete all necessary preparations and hold simultaneous ground-breaking ceremonies on July 15, for projects to build and repair homes for eligible beneficiaries. The move is aimed at marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947–2026).

She also instructed local authorities to conduct thorough reviews to ensure that support is provided to the right beneficiaries, used for the intended purposes and kept within state budget limits. Localities were asked to mobilise the entire political system, Party committees, administrations, socio-political organisations, armed forces, businesses and residents to contribute additional resources, accelerate implementation and ensure the programme is completed as soon as possible, thereby improving living conditions of beneficiaries.

The Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs was tasked with urging localities to reimburse funds to the For the Poor Fund before July 24, creating additional resources for the programme.

The Ministry of National Defence was instructed to review actual housing support needs in each locality and propose a detailed allocation plan for financial assistance from the For the Poor Fund.

The Ministry of Finance was asked to promptly issue guidance on principles governing central budget support for localities and to closely coordinate with the Ministry of National Defence in carrying out the programme./.

According to the document, at around 13:00 on July 11, an especially serious waterway traffic accident occurred about 200 metres off Hon May Rut Ngoai Island. Search and rescue underway after tourist speedboat capsizes off Phu Quoc

According to the local authorities, the canoe operated by Ocean Pearl Island Company was transporting 32 Indian tourists and three crew members, including one captain, one mechanic, and one staff member, capsized while en route from May Rut Ngoai Island to An Thoi Port amid strong wave and wind condition. As a result, by 15:00 on July 11, the accident had claimed 15 lives.

500-day campaign receives war memorabilia, martyr records

The donated materials include files on three martyrs’ personal belongings, burial records and maps identifying the graves of 21 martyrs at K76A Hospital, and decoded documents relating to Unit 962, linked to artefacts unearthed during excavation work at Le Thi Rieng Park in Hoa Hung ward.

Man jailed for smashing Nguyen Dynasty throne armrest

According to the indictment, Tam bought an admission ticket to the citadel around noon on May 24, 2025. Once inside Thai Hoa Palace, he climbed over a protective barrier, sat on the "Nguyen Dynasty Throne", and broke off the front-left armrest before striking the artifact further and shattering the broken section into multiple pieces.

Nearly 700 administrative procedures abolished

By the end of May this year, localities across had implemented simplification measures for 411 administrative procedures, including abolishing 86 processes, amending or supplementing 111 and retaining 214, contributing to improved efficiency of the State administrative apparatus as well as helping citizens and businesses.

Over 100 overseas Vietnamese youth to join Vietnam Summer Camp 2026

The programme will introduce delegates to Vietnam's rich cultural heritage, including UNESCO-recognised sites such as the Complex of Hue Monuments, My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An Ancient Town and Hue Royal Court Music. It combines heritage tours with history lessons, cultural experiences and Vietnamese language activities to strengthen participants' understanding of their roots and foster national pride.
