Hanoi (VNA) - The 2024 Outstanding Young Vietnamese Face Award honoured individuals who have demonstrated unwavering commitments and ambitions to contribute to national development and global recognition.

The event, held in Hanoi on March 23, highlighted the spirit of dedication among Vietnam's youth in an era of transformation.

Honouring sacrifice and service

Over the past four years, Phung Quang Trung and the Skyline team have restored 6,000 portraits of fallen soldiers free of charge, providing immense spiritual value for their families.

At the ceremony, Trung presented a restored portrait to Nguyen Thi Huyen, the wife of martyr Tang Ba Hung, who perished in the historic Super Typhoon Yagi. Overwhelmed with emotion, Huyen expressed her gratitude, believing her late husband would have been pleased.

Trung said that the work was both an obligation and a way to honour the nation’s fallen heroes, as he wanted to inspire more young people to take part in this meaningful mission.

Following in the steps of predecessors, Captain Nguyen Hoang Hai Quang of the Air Defence -Air Force Service emphasised his pride in serving the nation.

He affirmed that every mission reminds him to strive for excellence as a pilot, safeguarding the Fatherland’s skies. Beneath his wings lies the sacred homeland, and he must continuously improve himself.

In the battle against drugs, Captain Tran Vinh Chien of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security faces constant dangers and temptations.

Chien shared that by upholding his duty, serving the people, and maintaining resilience, he overcame every challenge and remained steadfast in his mission.

As Vietnam advances into a new era, the awardees are committed to shaping the country’s global presence across various fields.

Nguyen Huu Tien Hung, a student at Hanoi Medical University, and won two golds in the International Chemistry Olympiad (2023, 2024), remains dedicated to learning despite the challenges.

He said that adapting to global advancements is essential to serving the nation.

Similarly, Than The Cong stressed that lifelong learning is not just a slogan but a responsibility. For him, young people must embrace challenges to achieve their goals.

Dr. Pham Huy Hieu, a lecturer at VinUni, has secured multiple international patents and published extensively in renowned scientific journals. He believes technological advancements offer young Vietnamese the opportunity to access new knowledge, improve career prospects, and contribute to economic progress. Innovation and lifelong learning are the key to national development.

Hoang Khac Hieu of Viettel Group echoed this sentiment, highlighting the Government’s trust in young talent through Resolution 57 on the development of science and technology.

He said that this policy gives him and his team the confidence, resources, and environment to realise their potential. With the right support and pioneering spirit, the team can elevate Vietnam’s global standing.

Bringing Vietnam to world stage

Sharpshooter Trinh Thu Vinh, who won a series of gold medals, sees patriotism as her greatest motivation.

She declared that her goal is to bring Vietnam’s name to the international sports arena and raise the national flag high.

The event also featured an insightful discussion between Professor Tran Xuan Bach, an Outstanding Young Face of 2016, and awardees Than The Cong and Nguyen Huu Tien Hung. Their dialogue symbolised the continuity of youth efforts to propel Vietnam forward in a new era.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in his speech, challenged young people to define their role in shaping the nation’s future at this pivotal moment.

Quoting President Ho Chi Minh’s saying as he noted "Youth are the future of the country". The PM reaffirmed the Government’s deep trust and high expectations for the Vietnamese youth.
