The Venezuela-based Vietven Iluminaciones, a joint venture between Vietnam and the South American country, has exported 5,500 compact fluorescent light bulbs to nearby Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Founded on the initiative of late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, Vietven is the first energy-saving bulb manufacturer in the country.

The firm is expected to ship another 195,000 bulbs to Saint Kitts and Nevis along with other types of energy-efficient lights in the coming time to help improve electricity usage there.

The shipment is part of an effort by Petrocaribe - an oil alliance of Caribbean countries - to foster cooperation in fields other than oil and gas.

The alliance was launched in 2005 by Chávez to facilitate Caribbean countries’ access to Venezuela ’s oil resources.-VNA
