VN, Philippines tighten bilateral cooperation

A day earlier, the two sides conducted a senior official meeting (SOM).

Atthe sixth session, the two sides reviewed and evaluated outcomes on theimplementation of agreements reached at the fifth session in thePhilippines in February, 2008 and the Vietnam-Philippines ActionProgramme for the 2007-2010 period.

They set out orientations andmeasures to promote cooperation in specific areas, including the earlysigning of the Vietnam-Philippines Action Programme for the 2011-2016period with a view to continuing to carry out the framework of the“Joint Statement on Bilateral Cooperation Framework in the first 25years of the 21st century and the following period.”

The twosides were delighted with good steps of development in the friendshipand comprehensive cooperation after 35 years of establishing diplomaticties.

They highly valued encouraging growth in two-way trade inrecent years, exceeding the target of 2 billion USD set at the fourthsession.

Regarding security and defence cooperation, the twoagreed to continue implementing the agreement on defence cooperationsigned in October 2010, accelerating negotiations and the early signingof an agreement on establishment of an information line, increasedliaison between the two navies and an agreement on establishment of ahotline between the Vietnam Maritime Police and the Coast Guard Force ofthe Philippines.

On sea and ocean cooperation, they held that itis a pillar in the relations and pleased with positive results reachedin recent years, including the seventh session of the joint workinggroup on sea and ocean issues.

They agreed to closely work forthe success of the first session of the joint committee on sea and oceanat deputy foreign ministerial level held in the Philippines .

Theyalso agreed to implement the cooperative agreement on coping with oilspills and another on search and rescue signed in October 2010, toensure sea safety and security.

The Philippines pledged toconsider the abolition of regulations on visas or supervision overVietnamese sailors as well as the lifting of different taxes onVietnamese ships which transport export goods from the Philippines .

Thetwo sides discussed international and regional issues of common concernand agreed to increase coordination at regional and internationalforums, especially within the ASEAN cooperative framework.

Thetwo ministers expressed their pleasure at the fruitful results of thesession and believed that agreements reached at the meeting will becarried out by both countries’ ministries and agencies, contributing todeveloping friendship and comprehensive cooperation in a deeper and morepractical manner and meeting the aspirations of the two governments andpeoples.

They signed a memorandum of understanding at the end ofthe session and agreed to convene the next meeting in the Philippinesin 2013. A preparatory session for the seventh session will be heldin the Philippines in 2012.

Also the same day, Minister Albert F. Del Rosario was received by State President Truong Tan Sang./.

NA leader hosts Belgian King in Hanoi

To further strengthen Vietnam-Belgium relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels, particularly between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. They also pledged to share legislative and supervisory experience, coordinate positions in international organisations, support each other’s candidacies for UN bodies, and effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Vietnam wants to strengthen multi-faceted cooperation with Belgium: State President

President Cuong warmly welcomed King Philippe and a high-ranking delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium on their first state visit to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973, affirming that the trip is an important historical milestone, opening up a new page for the friendly relations between the two countries.
