Hanoi (VNA) – A webinar sharing experience in waste managementtoward achieving circular economy was held in Hanoi on December 15 inresponse to the 2021 Vietnam – Japan Environment Week.
The event wasco-hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s Institute ofStrategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) and the JapanInternational Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Speaking at the event,ISPONRE Director Asso. Prof Nguyen Dinh Tho said the documents adopted by the 13th National Party Congress and the socio-economic development strategy for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2025 have highlighted the encouragement ofcircular economic models.
JICA DeputyRepresentative in Vietnam Murooka Naomichi said circular economy is analternative approach for linear economy, which has been hailed by theUnited Nations and organisations worldwide as the best way to break relationsbetween economic growth and environment pollution.
According to him,circular economy helps mitigate the exploitation of natural resources and wastedischarges while promoting economic growth, thus bringing more benefits to thecountry, community and businesses.
JICA Vietnam alwaysstays ready to partner with Vietnamese agencies to reduce environmentpollution and promote a circular economy, he said.
Participants at theevent shared experience in solid waste management and Japan’s circular economicdevelopment, thus helping Vietnam fine-tune its policies./.
