Hanoi (VNA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on July 17 highlighted the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of commitment and agreement implementation, affirming that what has been signed must be seriously carried out.
Chairing a meeting to review and accelerate the implementation of the commitments and agreements signed within high-level diplomatic activities in the first half of 2025, Son lauded ministries and sectors for their thorough content preparations as well as concerted implementation, thereby helping utilise foreign affairs in mobilising external resources in service of socio-economic development, and national defence and security.
He requested that after this meeting, the ministries and agencies review all agreements under their authority, identify obstacles, and set timelines.
It is essential to seek solutions to soon put pending documents into place; promote inter-sectoral connectivity and coordination with partners to promptly remove roadblocks, and report issues beyond their authority, especially for large-scale, symbolic projects that would have a comprehensive impact on the country's development goals; create new growth drivers such as transport infrastructure, energy, science and technology; and attract high-quality foreign investment.
The Deputy PM also noted that ministries and sectors should proactively scope out new fields and areas with ample room for cooperation to expand the market, remove difficulties for exports, and advocate for recognition of market economy status, contributing to realising the target of 8% growth in 2025 and double-digit growth in the following years.
He higlighted the need to prepare for a comprehensive review of the implementation of commitments and agreements from the 13th National Party Congress to draw lessons for the next term.
According to a report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the first six months, ministries, sectors and localities signed more than 250 commitments and cooperation agreements during the diplomatic activities of high-ranking leaders, doubling the 2024 number.
In the second quarter alone, up to 200 commitments and agreements were inked, covering various areas. In particular, Vietnam made 15 voluntary commitments related to the marine environment.
The rise not only demonstrates the spirit of integration of ministries and sectors, but also reflects the importance partners attach to strengthenining collaboration with Vietnam.
