Hanoi (VNA) – The fourth Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit will be an opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its strong commitments to achieving the UN's sustainable development goals, said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Bui Thanh Son.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Hanoi summit, slated for April 14-17, Son said that the event, themed “Sustainable and People-Centred Green Transition” is the first multilateral high-level conference in the field of green growth, green transition, and sustainable development hosted by Vietnam.

He said that as sustainable development and green transition form an inevitable trend and strategic choice for nations, this P4G Summit will offer a chance for Vietnam to work with the international community to promote green and sustainable transition strategies at national, regional, and global levels.

The summit also aims to concretise the policies and viewpoints of the Vietnamese Party and State regarding foreign relations, deepen relationships with partners, and enhance Vietnam's position and role in multilateral mechanisms, thereby leveraging international resources for development, especially in combating climate change and promoting green transition, digital transformation, science-technology, and innovation.

Moreover, as Vietnam enters a new era of the nation’s rise, this is also an opportunity to affirm the correct path of the Vietnamese Party and State in sustainable development. Vietnam will not sacrifice social progress, social equity, and the environment in pursuit of mere economic growth. Green growth must contribute to restructuring the economy linked with transforming the growth model to achieve economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social equity.

Through this summit, Vietnam wishes to extend to the international community a message of a Vietnam that is determined to transform its growth model, promote rapid and sustainable development, showcase strong economic achievements and potential, its unique cultural values, and the hospitality, friendliness, and resilience of the Vietnamese people, the Deputy PM said.

Regarding Vietnam’s preparation for the summit, Son said that given the significance of the summit, the preparation work has received special attention and been carried out early on, with active and responsible participation from ministries, sectors, and Hanoi to ensure the summit's success in all aspects.

To date, about 600 international delegates from over 40 countries and international organisations, including P4G member countries and partners, investment funds, research institutes, scholars, businesses, and diplomatic missions have registered to participate in the event, both in-person and online.

Many high-ranking leaders from countries and partners, including the UN Deputy Secretary-General, three Prime Ministers, and several Deputy Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers are expected to visit Vietnam and attend the summit.

Regarding the agenda, the Deputy PM said that Vietnam has actively exchanged with and consulted P4G member countries and partners on the summit's theme and focused discussions, particularly those on policies that promote public-private partnership, attract investment, the maximisation of resources for green transition, the application of technology and innovation to improve resource efficiency, reduce emissions, ensure sustainable energy transition, and prepare human resources for a green economy.

The summit is expected to adopt the Hanoi Declaration, strongly affirming commitments to green and sustainable growth with people at the centre, and a determination to collaborate responsibly in addressing current global challenges, he said, noting the success of this summit will provide values to all stakeholders, helping the international community find more effective solutions to global challenges and achieve tangible results in fulfilling sustainable development goals./.
