Nghe An (VNA) – A wartime bomb weighing around 250kg was safely detonated on February 11 in Xieng Huong village, Tuong Duong commune, Nghe An province, with absolute safety ensured for both personnel and equipment.
The bomb was discovered at midday on February 7 by the family of Nguyen Van Viet, a resident of Tuong Duong commune, while they were excavating land to lay a house foundation.
Suspecting the object to be an unexploded bomb, the family immediately reported to local authorities.
Verification confirmed that the object was an MK82 bomb with its detonator still intact. Buried at a depth of around 3.5m, the bomb measured 40cm in diameter, 140cm in length and weighed approximately 250kg. Following the discovery, authorities promptly evacuated residents and livestock from the danger zone, established a secure perimeter, erected warning signs and deployed round-the-clock guards.
According to Tuong Duong commune's Military Command, the bomb was a remnant of the war and is the largest unexploded ordnance ever found in the locality./.
