Jakarta (VNA) – Vietnam’s futsal team secured an impressive 2–0 victory over Lebanon on January 29 in their second Group B match at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 finals in Indonesia, significantly boosting their chances of advancing to the quarter-finals.
The match at Jakarta Velodrome saw Vietnamese players assert their dominance early on, combining sharp attacking play in the first half with resilient defence after the break.
Vietnam took control almost immediately after kick-off. Just one minute into the match, Nguyen Thinh Phat skilfully held up the ball before setting up Dinh Cong Vien, who finished from close range to open the scoring. The advantage was doubled in the fifth minute when Vu Ngoc Anh struck twice in quick succession following a long distribution from goalkeeper Pham Van Tu.
With a two-goal cushion, Vietnam slowed the tempo and adopted a compact defensive approach, patiently waiting for counter-attacking opportunities.
Lebanon pushed higher up the court and created several dangerous chances, including a shot that struck the post in the 32nd minute, but Vietnam’s defence remained solid.
A tense moment came in the 25th minute when Duong Ngoc Linh was shown a second yellow card, reducing Vietnam to four players. Despite being under pressure during the two-minute numerical disadvantage, the Vietnamese players showed great determination, tight marking and high concentration to successfully neutralise Lebanon’s attacks.
In the closing stages, Lebanon switched to a power-play strategy in search of a breakthrough, but were unable to penetrate coach Diego Giustozzi’s well-organised defence. The match ended with a deserved 2–0 win for Vietnam.
On January 27, Vietnam defeated Kuwait 5–4. With a perfect six points from two matches, Vietnam are in a strong position to progress from the group stage ahead of their final Group B clash against Thailand on January 31./.
