Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– In the new era, the military’s logistics and technical sector must take the lead in sci-tech innovation, proactively absorbing the most advanced achievements of human knowledge and applying them to its development as well as to the country’s industrialisation and modernisation, Party General Secretary To Lam said on January 14.

The Party leader made the remarks at a ceremony held by the General Department of Logistics - Technical Services under the Ministry of National Defence in Hanoi, where the unit was awarded the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces. Read full story

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has stressed the urgent need to enhance the effectiveness of the negotiation and implementation of international commitments and agreements so as to step up foreign affairs and international integration while strengthening Vietnam’s prestige and stature in the world to support the realisation of strategic development goals, including double-digit growth for 2026–2030.

Chairing a conference on January 14 to review the follow-up and implementation of the international agreements and commitments made during high-level diplomatic activities over the last five years, the PM commended efforts by ministries, sectors, agencies and localities—particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—to achieve the positive results in the period. – Vietnam has identified green transition in the digital era as a top priority, an objective necessity and a strategic choice, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed on January 14 while addressing the sixth meeting of the National Steering Committee for the implementation of Vietnam’s commitments at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).

In his opening remarks, the Government leader, also head of the steering committee, noted that Vietnam is among the countries most severely affected by climate change and must adopt effective adaptation solutions. In 2025 alone, the country was hit by 21 storms and tropical depressions, resulting in 420 deaths, 730 injuries and estimated economic losses of around 100 trillion VND (3.8 billion USD). – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said 2026 will usher in a new stage of national integration in a new era, stressing the need to pursue international cooperation in a more comprehensive, substantive and effective manner in line with the foreign policy orientations set by the 14th National Party Congress.

Addressing a national conference reviewing the National Steering Committee for International Integration's international integration work in 2025 and outlining tasks for 2026 on January 14, PM Chinh, who is also head of the committee, emphasised integration serves three key goals: enhancing Vietnam’s stature, capacity, position and credibility on the global stage; strengthening strategic proactiveness in international relations; and improving the material and spiritual well-being of the people. – Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, who is also head of the organising sub-committee of the 14th National Party Congress, presided over the final review of organisational arrangements for the congress on January 14.

Tu and the inspection team examined key arrangements, including plans for delegations to pay tribute at President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, lay wreaths at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son street, and transport delegations to the venue of the congress at the National Convention Centre (NCC) on Pham Hung street. – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh expressed his desire for Singapore to share its experience in international financial centre (IFC) operation, as well as help establish a network of connections with partners in Singapore, during his meeting with Heng Swee Keat, former Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Finance of Singapore, on January 13 as part of his working visit to the city-state.

During the meeting Deputy PM Binh highlighted the flourishing Vietnam – Singapore relations in recent times, which reached the highest level with the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March last year. Read full story

– The press centre for the 14th National Party Congress was officially inaugurated at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on January 14.

So far, 597 journalists and technicians from 113 domestic media outlets, along with 79 journalists and media assistants from 43 foreign news agencies, overseas Vietnamese media, and political party publications, have registered to cover the congress, marking a significant increase compared to the 13th National Party Congress.
