- The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) solemnly opened at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on January 20 morning.
The draft Political Report submitted to the congress bears the theme: Under the glorious flag of the Party, uniting in strength and determination to successfully achieve national development goals by 2030; strategic self-reliance, self-strengthening and confidence, advancing strongly in the era of the nation’s rise, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, affluence, civilisation and happiness, steadfastly moving toward socialism. - Party General Secretary To Lam, head of the Documents Subcommittee, on behalf of the 13th Party Central Committee, on January 20 presented its report on the documents submitted to the 14th National Congress, highlighting key issues and new points in the draft documents for the congress to consider, discuss and decide upon.
The draft documents include the draft Political Report of the 13th Party Central Committee; the draft Report reviewing a number of theoretical and practical issues related to the socialist-oriented renewal process over the past 40 years in Vietnam; and the draft Report summarising 15 years of implementation of the Party Statutes (2011–2025), together with proposals and orientations for amending and supplementing the Party Statutes. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed a decision approving a scheme on information and communications for the development and application of nuclear energy serving socio-economic development through 2035.
The scheme aims to strengthen information dissemination and public communications to enhance awareness and understanding of the benefits, effectiveness and contributions of nuclear energy, particularly nuclear power, to national development, thereby enhancing consensus among authorities, sectors and the public, promoting a culture of nuclear safety and security, and facilitating the effective implementation of nuclear energy-related programmes and projects in the new development phase. - The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) shoulders an enormous historical mission: not only to set goals and directions for the 2026–2030 term, but also to make decisions on strategic issues concerning the future and destiny of the nation in many decades to come, State President Luong Cuong stated at the opening ceremony of the event in Hanoi on January 20.

- A festival honouring the long-standing craft of cultivating Nhat Tan peach blossoms opened on January 19 in Hanoi.
The event, themed “Nhat Tan peach blossoms – Spring colours of Hong Ha”, is jointly organised by the ward’s People’s Committee and the Traditional Nhat Tan Peach Blossom Craft Association, introducing artistic peach creations to residents and visitors ahead of the Lunar New Year. Read full story
- Amid the vibrant pace of urbanisation, Nha Trang, a popular destination in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, is offering visitors a chance to slow down and immerse themselves in a rustic countryside setting imbued with the spirit of traditional Tet (Lunar New Year).
At the old Nha Trang craft village, a traditional Tet programme is being held for 45 days starting from January 18, recreating a traditional Tet space familiar to many generations of Vietnamese people. Stepping into the venue, visitors feel as if they are shipped back to a rural village with areca palm rows, kitchen fires, trays of traditional cakes, and red calligraphy couplets, among many other scenes, all of which stir memories of family reunions. - With around one month to go before Lunar New Year Festival (Tet), Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism market is gathering momentum, as visitor numbers climb steadily and businesses step up the promotion of culture- and cuisine-based products to draw travellers and further popularise Vietnam’s image.
A notable new attraction is the Pho (rice noodle soup) Museum in Ben Thanh ward, which officially opened in mid-January. As the country’s first museum dedicated to culinary heritage, it is designed to preserve, develop and spread the values of Vietnamese cuisine to both domestic and international visitors.
