Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 25 proposed five pioneer orientations to help build a wealthy, prosperous, and sustainable Asia during his keynote speech at a session titled “Is Asia's Century at Risk?”, part of the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin, China.

This was one of the most anticipated and significant sessions of this year’s forum, drawing the participation of a large number of government officials, business leaders, scholars, and representatives from international organisations. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 26 visited the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) to gain insight into the exchange’s operations and the Shanghai International Financial Centre (IFC).

During the visit, part of his working trip to China, the PM received a comprehensive briefing on the SSE’s history and development, management framework, operational model, core functions, product offerings, market capitalisation relative to China’s economy, and trading activities. Read full story

- Vietnam always values and supports cooperation between its ministries, sectors, and localities and their Chinese counterparts, including Shanghai, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed during his meeting with Chen Jining, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, on June 26.

Congratulating the Shanghai Party Committee, authorities, and people on their achievements in socio-economic development, PM Chinh highlighted the city’s leading role in China’s modernisation, scientific and technological innovation, and reform policy implementation. Read full story

- State President Luong Cuong hosted separate receptions in Hanoi on June 26 for the outgoing Canadian and Iranian ambassadors to Vietnam.

Congratulating Canadian Ambassador Shawn Perry Steil on his successful tenure, Cuong expressed appreciation for his efforts in advancing the Vietnam – Canada ties, especially during milestones like the fifth anniversary of their Comprehensive Partnership in 2022 and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2023. - Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, and his Indian counterpart Periasamy Kumaran co-chaired the 13th Political Consultation and the 10th Strategic Dialogue between the two countries in New Delhi on June 25, during which they proposed many measures to further foster bilateral relations.

During the Political Consultation, the two sides reviewed the bilateral cooperation and agreed that the Vietnam–India relationship is witnessing positive developments, marked by strong political trust. They noted that high-level agreements, particularly the outcomes of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s state visit to India in August 2024, are being effectively implemented. Read full story

- An appeal court on June 26 slashed jail sentence for FLC Group Ex-Chairman Trinh Van Quyet from 21 years to seven in a fraud and stock market manipulation case.

After a 10-day hearing, the High-level People’s Court in Hanoi delivered its appellate verdict in the case involving property developer FLC Group. Read full story

- As many as 18,491 pagodas across the country will simultaneously conduct a ceremonial ringing of bells and drums to pray for national peace, solidarity, and prosperity on the morning of July 1, according to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS).

The VBS Executive Council has sent a document to provincial and municipal Sangha chapters, as well as pagodas and monastic institutions nationwide, calling for their participation in the ritual. Read full story

- Police in the central province of Nghe An have successfully dismantled what is considered the largest organised crime syndicate uncovered in 2025 – a transnational cyber fraud ring operating in Myanmar and the Philippines.

The crackdown led to the arrest of nearly 100 individuals linked to the scheme, which is believed to have defrauded Vietnamese citizens of over 2 trillion VND (76.58 million USD). Read full story

- The 2025 Vietnam National Karate Championship, co-organised by the Hue Department of Culture and Sports and the Sports Authority of Vietnam, officially kicked off at the central city’s Sports Centre on the morning of June 26, attracted nearly 500 athletes from 34 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide.

- Ex-football stars from Manchester United (MU) Wes Brown and Teddy Sheringham, along with 12 young players, have arrived in Da Nang to join the Vietnam – UK Football Festival 2025 in the central city from June 26 to 28.

Vietnam-India relations enter new phase of development: Indian expert

Top leader’s visits opening new phase of deeper, more effective ties with India, Sri Lanka: FM

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung described the visits as particularly important and historic, taking place at a meaningful moment as Vietnam and India mark the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and just one month after the top leader of Vietnam assumed his new position. For Sri Lanka, this was the highest-level visit by a Vietnamese leader since the two countries established diplomatic relations.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang said that the Vietnamese delegation made important contributions to the summit’s success, reflecting the foreign policy orientation set out by the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which continues to place ASEAN at the centre of Vietnam’s regional engagement, as well as its commitment to proactive, positive and responsible contributions to ASEAN Community-building process.
