Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

-  UN Under-Secretary-General Atul Khare visited Vietnam's Engineering Unit Rotation 1 at the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on March 6, during which he thanked the Vietnamese peacekeeping forces in Abyei for their positive and effective contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, bringing a better life to local communities.

According to Colonel Mac Duc Trong, head of the unit, the unit has so far repaired and upgraded 46km of roads, and ensured traffic on a 50-km route in the Northern Sub-division, contributing to the circulation of goods, stabilising the life and socio-economic conditions of local residents in the Northern Sub-division and the whole Abyei area. The unit has also opened four new patrol routes through the forests with a total length of 46km. Read full story

- Vietnam calls on the international community to enhance cooperation and coordinate policies in order to ensure women’s rights and gender equality, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), said at a debate of the UN Security Council on March 7.

Themed “Women, Peace and Security: Towards the 25th Anniversary of Resolution 1325”, the event was attended by representatives from nearly 90 member countries. Read full story

- President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) Nguyen Dinh Khang, who is also Vice President of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), paid a working trip to Greece from March 6-7 at the invitation of the international body.

On March 6, WFTU Honorary President George Mavrikos received and held talks with Khang, during which Khang acknowledged the important role of the WFTU Secretariat and WFTU’s headquarters in particular in coordinating the activities of the global labour and trade union movements. Read full story

- Vietnam ranked third among Laos’ export markets in January with a total value amounting to about 65 million USD, while China remained the top export destination for the country and was followed by Thailand, with 156 million USD and 128 million USD, respectively.

At the same time, Vietnam was also the third among the countries from which Laos imported the most with a total value of about 21 million USD. Thailand topped the list while China came second with 255 million USD and about 121 million USD, respectively. Read full story

- Vietnam's aquaculture output was estimated at 1.18 million tonnes in the first two months of 2023, rising by 1.3% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

In February alone, the output stood at an estimated 593,400 tonnes, up 2.5% compared to the same period last year. Read full story

- A ceremony took place at the Japanese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on March 7 to sign a contract on the funding of three projects in Vietnam at a total value of 252,528 USD.

The assistance is part of the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme. Read full story

- China’s customs authorities have approved Vietnam's 246 farming area codes and 97 packaging facility codes that fully meet the requirements for export to the Chinese market.

Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam) Ngo Xuan Nam said China is considering another 36 growing area codes and 18 packing facility codes for approval in the next time.Read full story
- Vietnam handed a 3-0 defeat to Indonesia at their first match of the AFC U20s Women's Asian Cup qualifiers in the northern province of Phu Tho on March 7.

The first goal was scored by Luu Hoang Van right in the 3rd minute, while the others came in the 9th and 38th minutes by Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh and Vu Thi Hoa. Read full story

- Nguyen Thuy Trang has brought the first gold medal to Vietnam at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2023 held in Indonesia from March 1-10.
