- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh at the premises of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on October 10 (local time).

The event took place as part of the Vietnamese leader’s state visit and attendance at the ceremony marking the 80th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK). Read full story

- State President Luong Cuong on October 10 handed over decisions on the conferment of ambassadorial title to officials and diplomats at a ceremony held in Hanoi.

The title recipients were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Pham Thi Kim Hoa, Vietnamese Consul General in Vancouver (Canada) Nguyen Quang Trung, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Pham Hoang Kim, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Türkiye Do Son Hai. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Hanoi’s Trung Gia and Da Phuc communes on the night of October 9 to oversee flood response and recovery efforts after learning that many areas were heavily inundated as river levels rose.

For more than a day, rising river levels have flooded parts of the communes, prompting the local civil defence command, together with military, police, and volunteer forces, to encourage and assist residents to evacuate to safety, while reinforcing embankments to prevent floodwaters from breaching them. - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man, together with the delegation of NA deputies of Can Tho, met with voters in the Mekong Delta city on October 10 to inform them of the agenda of the upcoming 10th session of the 15th legislature, and listen to their opinions and petitions.

Accordingly, the session is scheduled to open on October 20 and conclude on December 12. It will be held in a single centralised meeting at the National Assembly Building. Read full story

- Vietnam remains steadfast in upholding independence, acting responsibly, and engaging in substantive cooperation with all partners to safeguard national interests while contributing to building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous world, affirmed Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son.

He made the statement at the high-level session on global affairs within the framework of the 2nd Global Gateway Forum in Brussels, Belgium, on the afternoon of October 9 (local time). Read full story

- Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has signed a decision approving the Vietnam Logistics Services Development Strategy for 2025–2035 period, with a vision to 2050, which aims to build a sustainable, efficient, and high value-added logistics sector with strong competitiveness, leveraging Vietnam’s advantages in global supply and value chains.

In the period, the added value of logistics services is set to account for 5 – 7% of the country’s GDP, with an average annual growth rate of 12–15%. The strategy seeks to raise the outsourcing rate of logistics services to 70 – 80% and reduce logistics costs to around 12 – 15% of GDP. Vietnam aims to rank among the world’s top 40 countries and territories in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI). Meanwhile, 80% of logistics enterprises are expected to adopt digital transformation solutions. Read full story

- Vietnam secured a 3-1 victory over Nepal in their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying match on the evening of October 9 at Go Dau Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.

The national team faced some challenges in the first half. Tien Linh opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a precise finish. However, in the 17th minute, Shrestha Sanish equalised for Nepal with a header. Read full story

- FIFA has appointed Tran Quoc Tuan, President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Committee, to serve on the FIFA Committee for National Team Competitions for the 2025–2029 term. FIFA will support him in fulfilling his duties in this new role.

The FIFA Committee for National Team Competitions advises and consults the FIFA Council on strategic planning and oversees major international tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, FIFA U20 World Cup and FIFA U17 World Cup, as well as other competitions within the FIFA system. Read full story

- A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck off Davao Oriental province on the southern island of Mindanao at 9:42 am on October 10, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre earlier reported the quake at a magnitude of 7.4./. Read full story

Top legislator calls for strict discipline to further enhance quality of NA operations

Chairman Man clearly outlined key tasks for the time ahead and requested the prompt finalisation and promulgation of newly adopted laws and resolutions, proactive reviews to ensure consistency with new guidelines, and thorough preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure.

Minister of Foreign Affairs receives Japan’s Tochigi Governor

Trung suggested that Tochigi continue to effectively implement signed agreements and further strengthen cooperation in areas that can create new development momentum for Vietnam, such as science and technology, digital transformation, innovation, and the training of high-quality human resources.

PM suggests acceleration of Laos–Vietnam University establishment

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the two sides should strengthen the teaching and learning of Vietnamese and Lao in both countries, including introducing Vietnamese as an optional foreign language in Lao schools, while continuing academic exchanges and programmes on tradition education to nurture the special bilateral relationship, he said.

Cook Islands attaches importance to ties with Vietnam

Sir Tom Marsters, Representative of King Charles III to the Cook Islands welcomed the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Cook Islands and Vietnam in April 2022, describing it as laying a long-term vision for friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Government sets out coordinated plan for 2026 elections

The plan also aims to ensure that the elections are conducted in a democratic, equal and law-abiding manner, while being safe and cost-effective, truly becoming a nationwide civic event, thus contributing to strengthening and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the state apparatus and building a socialist rule-of-law state of Vietnam of the people, by the people and for the people.
