Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam held talks with General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un right after the solemn welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese leader in Pyongyang on October 9 morning.

The DPRK leader warmly welcomed General Secretary Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to pay a state visit to the DPRK and attend the ceremony to celebrate the 80th founding anniversary of the WPK (October 10, 1945 - October 10, 2025), emphasising that this visit is of special importance, creating a strong driving force to enhance mutual understanding, consolidate political trust and promote the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries to a new height, towards completing the socialist development goals of each country; and at the same time, contribute to supporting the development of the DPRK. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has highlighted the message that "each citizen is a soldier, each family is a stronghold, each locality is a fortress in the fight against drugs," calling on all people to condemn and reject the existence of drug-related crime and social issues, as well as to inform and report drug offenders to the police.

Concluding a nationwide teleconference to launch the National Target Programme on Drug Prevention and Control to 2030, PM Chinh stressed that drug prevention is an urgent, long-term mission requiring persistence and coordination across the political system. Read full story

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 9 requested enhanced forecasting capacity to ensure a timely, flexible, and effective response to natural disasters, given that many localities are still suffering severe damage caused by Typhoon Matmo and its subsequent flooding, while disasters and weather patterns remain complex in the coming period.

Chairing a meeting of the Government’s standing members on addressing the aftermath of natural disasters, particularly Typhoon Matmo – the 11th storm entering the East Sea this year – and the subsequent flooding, PM Chinh urged ministries and sectors to organise visits, offer encouragement, and provide guidance on disaster recovery efforts, especially in severely affected areas and localities still experiencing flooding and isolation. – Vietnam’s total import-export turnover in 2025 is expected to reach a new milestone of around 900 billion USD, heard a regular press conference held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) in Hanoi on October 8.

The foreign trade remained a bright spot of the economy in the first nine months of 2025, with total turnover reaching 680.6 billion USD, up 17.3% year-on-year. Read full story

– Vietnamese delegations are scheduled to visit the US in October and November 2025 to further discussions and move towards finalising a reciprocal trade agreement, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said at a press conference held on October 8.

– A ceremony held on October 9 marked the official export of Vietnamese pomelos to Australia and Australian blueberries to Vietnam.

Pomelo has become the eighth Vietnamese fruit permitted to enter the Australian market, following dragon fruit, mango, longan, rambutan, lychee, star apple, and passion fruit. Meanwhile, blueberries are now the eighth Australian fruit allowed into Vietnam, after grapes, oranges, mandarins, cherries, peaches, nectarines, and plums. Read full story./.

More than 10 months after the competition’s launch, the organising board received 3,508 entries from 125 media outlets nationwide. After initial screening, 659 works proceeded to preliminary judging, from which a preliminary jury selected 91 entries for the final round. The final jury ultimately selected 64 works for awards.

PM directs tasks to boost economic growth
