Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

– With a motto of solidarity, cooperation, responsibility, and sustainable development, Vietnam stands ready to be a reliable partner and an attractive, safe destination for the global logistics business community, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 8.

He made the remark at the 2025 International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) World Congress, the largest annual event of the global logistics industry, held in Hanoi. Read full story

– The National Assembly (NA)’s Standing Committee convened its 50th session, the final preparatory meeting ahead of the tenth sitting of the 15th parliament, in Hanoi on the afternoon of October 8.

Presiding over the opening ceremony, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man said the six-day session will deliberate on 37 major items. Legislative work, he said, will take centre stage, with the NA Standing Committee set to discuss 22 draft laws and resolutions for submission to the NA at its 10th sitting, adding the legislative proposals on such key areas as completion of tax policy, apparatus organisation, human rights, innovation, and national digital transformation. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed a decision establishing the steering committee for the Opening for the Signature of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention) and related events in Vietnam.

Decision No. 2222/QD-TTg, dated October 8, 2025, stipulates that the steering committee will assist the PM in directing and coordinating critical inter-ministerial work related to the implementation of international cooperation on cybersecurity and combating high-tech crime. Read full story

– As of October 6, the Government of Vietnam had received confirmations from nearly 100 countries and over 100 international and regional organisations to attend the Opening for the Signature of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (the Hanoi Convention), with the participation of numerous heads of state, government leaders, and ministers.

Vietnam will host the signature opening ceremony and high-level conference of the convention, themed "Countering Cybercrime – Sharing Responsibility – Securing our Future," in the capital city on October 25 and 26. Read full story

– Vietnamese and Singaporean young military officers gathered in Hanoi on October 8 to exchange knowledge, share professional experiences, and discuss military training and operations.

– As of 5pm on October 8, heavy rains triggered by the aftermath of Storm Matmo had inundated and damaged nearly 22,600 ha of rice and crops, killed or swept away hundreds of thousands of livestock and poultry, and flooded close to 17,000 houses.

As many as 16,918 houses were flooded, 1,608 were isolated, and 710 suffered severe damage, according to preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. Read full story

– The Southeast Asian Esports Federation (SEAEF) was officially established on October 8, bringing together 11 member countries from across the region, according to the Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA).

To enhance cooperation, promote growth, and unlock the full potential of esports in Southeast Asia, representatives of the participating nations convened to elect the first Executive Committee of SEAEF for the 2025–2029 term. – The renowned travel magazine Travel + Leisure has recently listed six caves in the central province of Quang Tri as must-visit destinations for anyone exploring Vietnam’s underground wonders, announced the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

NA Chairman attends rehearsal for fourth Dien Hong awards

More than 10 months after the competition’s launch, the organising board received 3,508 entries from 125 media outlets nationwide. After initial screening, 659 works proceeded to preliminary judging, from which a preliminary jury selected 91 entries for the final round. The final jury ultimately selected 64 works for awards.

PM directs tasks to boost economic growth

To fully realise the 2025 socio-economic development plan, while creating momentum for 2026, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged ministers, heads of ministry-level agencies, and chairpersons of People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow resolutions of the Party, the National Assembly and the Government, along with the Prime Minister’s directives.
