Can Tho proposes cooperation with Russian firms in renewable energy, agriculture

To promote ties in tourism, trade, and related fields, the Can Tho leader raised the possibility of opening direct flights from the city to regions of Russia, particularly those where Russian residents have an interest in tropical climate and the distinctive culture of Can Tho.

Can Tho (VNA) - Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho city Le Quang Tung has held a working session with a delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, led by First Deputy Speaker Andrey Vladimirovich Yatskin, who is also a representative of the executive authority of the Rostov Oblast.

At the November 29 meeting, Yatskin appreciated the Mekong Delta city’s economic development pace, and its well-developed road transport system and Cai Cui port, affirming that these are areas of major interest to Russian investors.

He stated that Russian investors and enterprises are very interested in exploring investment cooperation opportunities in the city, including in tourism. The official also expressed his desire to expand direct collaboration between Russian and Vietnamese localities.

Tung assessed that the city’s export turnover to Russia in the first ten months of 2025 remained modest, reaching approximately 2.52 million USD, with major export items being pharmaceuticals and veterinary medicines.

He expressed his hope that the city’s key products, such as rice, aquatic products and seafood, will be further exported to Russia. He also proposed both sides step up investment and trade promotion activities, especially those targeting the Russian business community in sectors such as renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, deep-processing industries for agricultural and aquatic products, high-tech supporting industries, and materials; and strengthen connections with localities in Russia to foster cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.
