Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has denied any wrongdoing over the two gas pipeline projects worth 9.4 billion ringgit (2.36 billion USD) with China.

Malaysian Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the ministry discovered that 88 percent of the money has been paid out for the projects but only 13 percent of the work has been completed.

The projects were signed in 2016 by Malaysia’s Suria Strategic Energy Resources (SSER) and China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPPB).

Lim said based on the highly suspicious transactions above, he had instructed his subordinates to file a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission last week.

The case has also been reported to Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

On June 5, Malaysian anti-corruption investigators questioned the wife of former Prime Minister Najib Razak about the 1MDB state investment fund. The fund was initiated by Najib in 2009 for socio-economic development through global partnership and foreign direct investment, but it has become the centre of a scandal involving the loss of 3.7 billion USD.

When taking office, PM Mahathir Mohamad vowed to fight corruption and reclaim the loss.-VNA
