Hanoi (VNA) – In the rest of the year, theMinistry of Health will focus on rolling out harmonious measures to enhancethe quality of healthcare services and ensure effective operation of the medicalexamination and treatment system, according to Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan.

Addressing a conference in Hanoi on July 31, the officialsaid that in the first six months of this year, the healthcare sectorconcentrated on building and giving advice on the promulgation of legaldocuments and a proposal to remove difficulties facing the sector after the COVID-19 pandemic.

She hailed efforts of all hospitals in purchasing medicines and medicalequipment to meet patients’ demands.

The official noted that so far, Vietnam has received 258,000doses of five-in-one vaccines for the expanded immunisation programme with thesupport of businesses, WHO and UNICEF.

However, she asked leaders of relevant agencies to continue to coordinate withministries and authorised agencies to promptly order vaccines for theprogramme.

In the rest of the year, the ministry will focus on granting licence andexpanding the circulation licences for medicines and medical equipment, whileclosely controlling the import of medicine and medical equipment and theirprices, ensuring stable prices of the products and medicine supply.

At the same time, it will build a roadmap for adjusting health insurancepremiums in line with the roadmap for adjusting medical service prices, whilespeeding up administrative reform and digital transformation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen said that in the first six months ofthis year, the sector managed to maintain the achievements in the COVID-19 fightand controlling other diseases, along with ensuring support policies for healthworkers.

It also exerted efforts to speed up the disbursement of public investmentcapital, while completing 56 tasks assigned by the Government and the PM.

In the time to come, the sector will continue to build on the achievements in the pandemic fight and preventionand control of other diseases, heading to the announcement of the end of the COVID-19 in Vietnam.

At the same time, more efforts will also be exerted to removeobstacle and ensure the supply of vaccines for the expanded programme on immunisation,and to build scenarios to respond to all epidemic situation.

The official added that the ministry will take action to ease the overload for hospitals by expanding the network of satellite hospitals, strengtheningscience and technology application in local hospitals, popularising onlinemedical examination activities and fostering connections among hospitals acrossthe countries, including those in remote and island areas./.

Vietnam will launch nationwide screening for five groups of school-related diseases and health conditions among students from preschool through high school from 2028, including overweight and obesity, refractive errors, spinal curvature, oral diseases and mental health disorders.

Free health checkups for children ahead of new school year

According to the Hanoi Department of Health, the city has 4,776 educational institutions with more than 2.2 million preschool and school students. The health campaign will run from August 18 to September 4, targeting 100% coverage before the new school year begins.

Hanoi steps up dengue prevention as cases rise

According to the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control (CDC), 316 dengue cases were recorded across 74 communes and wards in the city from August 7-14, up 81 from the previous week. Eleven new outbreaks were also reported, bringing the total number since the beginning of 2026 to 63, with 24 still active.
