Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital, in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has blocked 23,929 bank accounts linked to online gambling transactions as part of a nationwide crackdown.
Minister Minister Meutya Hafid said that this action is part of the government's strong commitment to eradicate online gambling, which harms the public and the economy.
"We want to ensure that all financial flows from illegal activities like online gambling are completely cut off," Indonesia's Antara news agency citied Hafid as saying.
She noted that the blocked accounts were identified through cyber patrols and public reports submitted to her ministry. The move, she added, represents a coordinated effort among ministries and agencies to curb online gambling by shutting down financial channels between users and gambling operators.
The minister urged the public to report suspected gambling sites and bank accounts through official complaint platforms.
From October 20, 2024, to September 16, 2025, the ministry handled over 2.1 million online gambling-related content in Indonesia’s digital space, according to Director General of Digital Space Supervision Alexander Sabar.
The Indonesian government has intensified efforts to combat online gambling amid concerns over its growing social and financial impact, with authorities vowing tougher enforcement and stronger cooperation across agencies./.
