Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia is stepping up strategic defence cooperation with Finland in cybersecurity, data protection and advanced defence technologies in a move seen by observers as strengthening the country's digital resilience against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia Pekka Kaihilahti at the ministry's headquarters in Central Jakarta on July 14.
Sjafrie wrote on his official Instagram account that the meeting discussed opportunities to strengthen Indonesia–Finland defence cooperation, particularly in data sovereignty and protection, C4ISR technology, satellite communications, maritime domain awareness, surveillance systems, cybersecurity and the development of maritime defence capabilities.
The minister said Finland's advanced technological capabilities make it a suitable partner for cybersecurity cooperation.
Beyond technological cooperation, Indonesia is also seeking closer collaboration with Finland in training and developing high-quality human resources to ensure the effective operation and independent management of modern defence systems.
Indonesian officials expressed the hope that the meeting would pave the way for deeper bilateral cooperation, strengthening the country's capacity to safeguard cyberspace and protect national data security amid increasingly complex and evolving digital threats./.
