Malaysia’s digital platform boosts cross-border trade

As the first online platform to integrate business matchmaking, e-marketplace access, market intelligence, and trade-related solutions, Malaysia's MADANI Digital Trade (MDT) platform was designed to provide exporters and SMEs with essential support and information to enter global markets.

Hanoi (VNA) - The MADANI Digital Trade (MDT) platform has enabled nearly 4,000 Malaysian companies to expand their global reach, enhancing competitiveness in international markets.

According to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2025 alone, MDT facilitated cross-border business connections for 600 Malaysian halal exporters, including micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The platform is playing a vital role in supporting digital transformation, particularly in cross-border trade, allowing goods and services to move faster, more cost-effectively, and with greater efficiency.

As the first online platform to integrate business matchmaking, e-marketplace access, market intelligence, and trade-related solutions, MDT was designed to provide exporters and SMEs with essential support and information to enter global markets.

It also offers access to critical trade services, such as customs declarations for imports, exports, and e-commerce transactions. This not only ensures compliance but also simplifies procedures. Through smart business-matching services, enterprises can engage more actively in international markets and integrate into global supply chains.

Speaking at the opening of the World Halal Business Summit on September 19, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim underlined the importance of MDT in strengthening Malaysia’s competitiveness. He stressed that it would serve as a key tool to drive trade digitalisation, empowering SMEs to integrate more deeply into global supply chains. The strategy reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing enterprise capacity through innovation and digital connectivity.

Earlier, at the platform’s launch on March 13, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said MDT would act as a catalyst for facilitating trade by streamlining export processes, lowering costs, and promoting inclusivity for SMEs in international business.

As the lead agency, MATRADE is working closely with relevant government bodies, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, as well as partners within Malaysia’s trade ecosystem. The initiative not only strengthens Malaysia’s role in global trade but also stimulates economic growth by creating a transparent, efficient, and technology-driven trading environment.

Built on big data analytics, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, MDT is expected to be a driving force for Malaysian companies in the digital economy while further consolidating the country’s position in global trade./.
