Hanoi (NNT/VNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has welcomed Citilink’s inaugural direct flight from Jakarta to Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok.
This new service significantly enhances air connectivity between Thailand and Indonesia. The maiden flight achieved a 100% load factor, demonstrating strong demand from Indonesian travelers.
Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, TAT Deputy Governor for Asia and the South Pacific, stated that Citilink, a budget airline under Garuda Indonesia, has chosen Bangkok as its fourth international destination after Singapore, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste. This new route increases Thailand’s capacity to welcome Indonesian travellers and strengthens regional connectivity.
To build on this momentum, TAT will work with Citilink on joint marketing campaigns, special travel promotions with tour operators and online travel agencies, and familiarisation trips for media and influencers to highlight Thailand’s tourism offerings to Indonesian audiences.
Citilink now operates daily Jakarta – Bangkok flights with Airbus A320 aircraft, adding over 5,000 seats per month to Thailand’s air capacity. This service provides greater convenience and more travel options, especially during the year-end festive season.
From January 1 to December 10, 2025, Thailand welcomed 735,443 Indonesian visitors, who stayed an average of seven days and spent 25,000 THB per trip. Popular destinations included Bangkok, Songkhla, Pattaya, and Phuket.
TAT expects the new Citilink route to grow the FIT and young traveller segments further and help Thailand reach its goal of attracting over 1 million Indonesian visitors in 2026./.
Air travel between Cambodia, Thailand remains operational
In a statement released on his Facebook post, Hun Sen explained that his earlier message, advising the Royal Government to consider suspending cross-border travel, referred specifically to land routes, as tensions are escalating along the entire land border, with some spillover into maritime areas.
