– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged ministries, agencies, and localities to actively perform their tasks with a spirit of “working day and night, even on holidays” to ensure the successful construction of Ninh Thuan nuclear power plants, serving the country’s development requirements in the new era.
Chairing the 4th meeting of the Steering Committee for Nuclear Power Plant Construction in Hanoi on January 7, the PM praised ministries and agencies, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), for actively implementing tasks and promptly resolving obstacles to speed up the progress of the project. In fulfilling its tasks and exercising its power in accordance with the Constitution, laws, and the working regulations, upholding the motto of “discipline and responsibility; proactive and timely action; streamlining and efficiency; acceleration and breakthroughs”, the Government, Prime Minister and each Government member have maximised the spirit of proactiveness, creativity, thoroughness, and decisiveness in leadership, guidance, and governance in all fields; brought into play collective wisdom alongside individual accountability; and acted under the principle that when the Party leads, the Government is unanimous, the National Assembly advocates, the people support, the nation expects and international friends assist, then we only move forward, not retreat. – As of January 7, functional agencies have basically completed major task groups for the upcoming 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam on schedule.
Chairing a working session with the Party Central Committee Office and relevant agencies on January 7 to review preparations for the Congress, Politburo member and Standing Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu commended agencies and units for their strong sense of responsibility and efforts in fulfilling assigned tasks in line with the plan. – Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development Randeep Sarai on January 7 visited the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, where six Canadian government-funded programmes and projects are being implemented.

– Vietnam’s seafood sector will continue to reduce capture fisheries while expanding aquaculture in a sustainable, climate-resilient manner to enhance competitiveness, with a strong focus on shifting from a production mindset to a fisheries economy and from single-value growth to integrated multi-value development, according to Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance.
In 2026, the sector aims for total seafood output of more than 10 million tonnes, up 0.6% from 2025. Of the total, capture fisheries are expected to reach about 3.75 million tonnes, down 2.1%, while aquaculture output is projected at 6.25 million tonnes, up 2.2%. – The total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2025 exceeded 7 quadrillion VND (262.7 billion USD), up 9.2% compared to 2024, reflecting stronger purchasing power and underscoring the continued role of domestic consumption as a major growth driver, said Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the National Statistics Office (NSO).
