– Party General Secretary To Lam on May 13 emphasised the need to continue extensive dissemination of the purpose, significance, scope, and content of the amendments and supplements to several articles of the 2013 Constitution to the public.

Chairing the Secretariat’s meeting on the collection of public opinions, as well as feedback from sectors and agencies at all levels regarding this work, Lam highlighted the importance of diversifying the forms of gathering public opinions, ensuring the promotion of democracy, and encouraging the people to contribute their feedback through the VNeID application. – State President Luong Cuong on May 13 attended a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of Liberation Day of Hai Phong (May 13, 1755-2025), during which he awarded the “Heroic City” title to the local Party organisation, authorities and people, and called for more efforts to make Hai Phong a city of innovation and start-ups.

– State President Luong Cuong attended a ceremony to inaugurate Lach Huyen International Container Terminals No.3 & No.4 at the Port of Hai Phong in the northern city of Hai Phong on May 13.

The event was among a series of activities in celebration of Hai Phong’s 70th Liberation Day (May 13, 1955-2025), and the 30th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Maritime Cooperation (April 29, 1995-2025). Read full story

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to its relations with France, its first comprehensive strategic partner in the European Union, while receiving French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet on May 13.

PM Chinh expressed his delight at the substantial and tangible progress in bilateral relations since the two countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the October 2024 visit to France by Party General Secretary To Lam, who was also State President then. – Ho Chi Minh City has consistently regarded strengthening friendship and cooperation with Russian localities, organisations, and enterprises as a key part of its international integration strategy, said Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee.

He made the statement at a ceremony held by the Russian Consulate General in HCM City on May 13 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Read full story

– Shakyamuni Buddha’s Sacred Śarīra, a national treasure of India, has been brought to and enshrined at Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi on May 13 afternoon within the framework of the United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations 2025 (Vesak 2025).

The relics will be open for public worship and veneration at the pagoda from 6 am to 9 pm from May 14-16. They will then be transferred to Tam Chuc Pagoda in the northern province of Ha Nam from May 17-21, before being returned to India. Read full story

– The Vietnamese Embassy in the US and the US Embassy in Vietnam jointly organised an event named "Connect with Vietnam" in Washington D.C., on May 12 (local time), drawing representatives from numerous Vietnamese businesses, and US enterprises, law and consulting firms, and banks.

– The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) said on May 13 that its members reported sales of 29,585 units in April, down 7% month-on-month but up 21% year-on-year.

Specifically, they reported the sales of 20,766 units of passenger vehicles, dropping 7% from March; 8,619 units of commercial vehicles, down 7%, and 200 others of special-purpose vehicles, up 11%. Read full story

– The Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) announced on May 13 a new international-standard bachelor’s degree model, reducing the study duration to just three years.

NA Standing Committee's key work agenda for 2026 approved

A major focus will be preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and to People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. The NASC will coordinate with the National Election Council, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and relevant agencies and organisations to continue implementing the election plan, organise oversight of the electoral process, and carry out its duties and powers as prescribed.
