About 2,800 Vietnamese workers in Libya had returned to the country by the afternoon of March 3, while more than 6,000 others are in transit in third countries, according to the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

Before the unrest, there were about 10,000 Vietnamese workers in Libya , including 2,000 in Benghazi city and 8,000 in the capital city of Tripoli and surrounding areas.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Libya has joined efforts with labour export companies and local authorities to gather the remaining workers in Libya and promptly evacuate them from the north African country.

No information on injury or death among Vietnamese citizens in Libya has been reported so far.

The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry asked other ASEAN countries and related nations to work together, to share information and help the passage of workers from Libya .

In an attempt to help Vietnamese workers, Vietnam Airlines was dispatching three flights to the Tunisian city of Djerba on March 2, 3 and 4.

A special flight from Tunisia conducted by the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, with about 300 Vietnamese workers aboard, is scheduled to land at Noi Bai International Airport early on March 4.

Based on MoLISA’s field report on the increasing number of Vietnamese workers fleeing to Djerba city, Vietnam Airlines plans to conduct two more flights to the city on March 5 and 7 and another to Istanbul , Turkey on March 6 to bring the Vietnamese workers home, bringing the total committed flights to date to seven.

A ship carrying 1,121 Vietnamese workers from Libya is scheduled to dock at the northern port city of Hai Phong . The ship left Libya on March 3.

To assist workers returning from Libya, the Government plans to reschedule debts and workers will be provided with more loans if they want to work in other markets./.
