The Hon La deep-water seaport in the central province of Quang Binh has been handed over to an affiliate of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) for management and operation.

Under an agreement signed by Quang Binh provincial authorities and the affiliate, the PetroVietnam Technical Service Corp. (PTSC), on Aug. 10, the PTSC will also enjoy preferential policies for investment in the province’s Hon La Economic Zone.

Addressing the signing ceremony, PTSC General Director Nguyen Hung Dung said the Hon La port plays a key role in his company’s deep-water seaport development strategy.

He said PTSC plans to focus its investment on developing and upgrading facilities for the port in the second phase, in order to increase its capacity, and thus boost local economic development.

The seaport, located within the Hon La EZ in Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province, is an important place on the North-South sea route, as well as for trade between central provinces and with neighbouring Laos and Thailand .

With a wharf 100m long and 25m wide, the Hon La port, in the first phase, is able to receive ships of up to 10,000 DWT.

In addition to the Hon La port, PTSC is preparing to take over and invest in the Nghi Son port in the central province of Thanh Hoa./.
