Moscow (VNA) – The 79th anniversary of the National Day of Vietnam (September 2) was celebrated with a ceremony held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia on August 26.

The event was attended by representatives from the host nation’s government, federal assembly, ministries and sectors, international friends, and several Vietnamese associations in the country.

Spotlighting the diplomatic achievements that Vietnam has obtained since its name was put in the global map 79 years ago, Vietnamese Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi stressed that Vietnam, from an impoverished colonial country, has become a diplomatic partner of 192 member countries of the UN, and a responsible and prestigious member of the international community, while engaging in various multilateral organisations.

Over the past years, the country has consistently carried out its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation of external relations, and been a trustworthy friend and partner for an international community of peace, stability, cooperation and development, he said.

Stressing that Vietnam – Russia relations have been built upon their time-honoured traditions, Khoi elaborated that the bilateral ties have got new development impulse following the state visit to Vietnam by Russian President Vladimir Putin in June, adding that after taking office, President To Lam held phone talks with his Russian counterpart, during which they underscored the special sentiments between the two peoples.

Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrey Rudenko, for his part, stated that the bilateral cooperation has been developing robustly in the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership amidst the complicated situation across the globe.

Given the maintenance of the regular and reliable political dialogues at all levels, particularly the highest one, Rudenko pinned his hope on the upcoming high-level visits, especially the trip by Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, which, he said, will help promote the parliamentary cooperation in handling challenges in economic and trade collaboration between the two nations.

The official wishes that the Vietnam – Russia friendship will be consolidated, and the win-win cooperation between the two sides will be further promoted.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Lenonid Kalashnikov, a close friend of Vietnam, recalled his memories with the Southeast Asian nation, and stressed the breakthrough development of Vietnam, which has risen to an industrial production hub in the region.

Saint Petersburg, a Russian city with the most cooperation activities with Vietnam, brought to the ceremony a mini exhibition featuring paintings about the country./.
