– Party General Secretary To Lam on February 4 requested all agencies, units, and localities to immediately get to work after the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, with focus on completing the tasks on schedule for February and the first quarter of 2025.

Chairing a conference of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat to evaluate the implementation of its Directive on organising Tet 2025, Lam appreciated the efforts made by sectors, agencies, units, and localities in thoroughly and effectively carrying out the directive, emphasising that the success of the Tet activities is a favourable starting point for a year full of success. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested competent authorities to accelerate the development of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant project while chairing the second meeting of the steering committee for nuclear power plant construction on February 4.

The revival of the Ninh Thuan nuclear project, which was initially approved by the 12th National Assembly in 2009 but suspended in 2016, marks a significant shift in Vietnam's energy strategy. The project, comprising two plants with a combined capacity exceeding 4,000 MW, then received in-principle approvals from the Party Central Committee and National Assembly in late 2024. – National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a working session with a delegation from the Ministry of Public Security led by Minister General Luong Tam Quang in Hanoi on February 4.

At the event, the top legislator hailed the police force’s contributions to the country's achievements in 2024, underscoring their fundamental role in maintaining political security and social order as well as working alongside the military to protect the nation in the new situation. – A tree planting festival celebrating the Lunar New Year and World Wetlands Day was launched at the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve, the northern province of Thai Binh, on February 4.

The event was also meant to mark the 66th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s tree planting campaign and the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). Read full story

– More than 1.48 million poor and near-poor households across Vietnam were given much-needed relief during the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tet), thanks to gifts and assistance amounting to 786 billion VND (31.44 million USD), reported the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs on February 3.

According to local departments of labour, invalids and social affairs, over 13.5 million people nationwide benefited from this outpouring of support. The total budget for this endeavour exceeded 7.943 trillion VND, up 181 billion VND from the previous year. Read full story

– Vietnam shipped nearly 51.7 billion USD to the European Union in 2024, marking an 18.5% increase, equivalent to an additional $8.08 billion compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, imports from the EU in 2024 totalled 16.7 billion USD, up 12% or 1.8 billion USD from the previous year. Read full story

– In a significant move to support businesses during challenging times, the Vietnamese government has extended and enhanced various tax relief programmes for 2025, with reductions and deferral measures aimed at stimulating economic growth.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the tax and fee incentives put in place between 2020 and 2024 made key contributions to socio-economic recovery and development. In 2025, the ministry will continue to implement fee reductions ranging from 10% to 50% to encourage citizens and businesses to utilize online public services. Read full story

Under the Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2025 as of February 2 this year, Quang, who temporarily dropped off the ranking in early January 2025, made a comeback with his net worth rebounding to 1 billion USD, placing him 2,718th on the list of the world’s richest people. Read full story

– Digital banking services have achieved remarkable progress in recent years to betters serve citizens and businesses, according to insiders.

Recent data revealed that more than 87% of Vietnam’s adult population now hold payment accounts at banks while many credit institutions are processing more than 95% of transactions through digital channels. 95th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union marked in Laos
