Hanoi (VNA) – Unemployed rate of the Republic of Korea (RoK) slightly dropped in September, with the number of newly-employed people increasing the strongest in four months, reported Yonhap News Agency.

According to the statistics agency of the RoK, the country’s unemployed rate stood at 3.4 percent in September, down 0.2 percentage point compared to the same period last year and 0.2 percentage point against the previous month.

The number of employed people hit 26.84 million people in the month, a rise of 314,000 people year-on-year. This was the strongest growth of the figure since May 2017 with an increase of 375,000 employed people.

The unemployment rate among young Koreans aged from 15 to 29 was 9.2 percent, a year-on-year decline of 0.2 percentage point. The rate of young people with jobs in September remained stable at 42.6 percent.

Nearly two million new jobs in construction were created last month thanks to favourable weather. Meanwhile, wholesale and retail firms in the RoK also generated 48,000 new jobs.

As many as 62,000 jobs were created in health care and social welfare, while manufacturing, which accounts for one fifth of the country’s jobs, provided additional 4.5 million jobs in September.-VNA
